The school or test centre must have e-mail access and at least one reliable internet connection in order to:

  • register the school or centre
  • enter students
  • download the computer-based tests and student files
  • upload the computer-based files containing students' answers after the tests

Computer requirements for administration

  • A secure e-mail address (preferably that of the person responsible for World Class Tests in the school or test centre)
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or later as a web browser
  • Browser set up to allow ActiveX controls. In Internet Explorer 5.5, this is a browser security setting found under Tools>Internet options>Security>Custom Level. Ensure 'Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls' is set to Enable.

Computer requirements for student machines

  • Pentium processor or equivalent (we recommend Pentium processor 1 Ghz or higher)
  • Hard disk (HDD) with at least 299 megabytes of free space
  • At least 256 megabytes RAM available
  • Flash 6 from Macromedia. Download available from Macromedia
  • Microsoft Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP or later operating system (mandatory)
  • Minimum screen display 800x600 (we recommend 1024x768 High Colour 16 bit mode - 65536 colours in Windows NT or higher)
  • Keyboard and mouse (mandatory)
  • Floppy disk drive (recommended)

We recommend that schools and test centres have at least one unused machine set up while students are taking the tests in case another machine fails.

Network compatibility
The tests can currently be downloaded to a network drive and then on to individual machines or loaded separately as required. The student response files, however, are set up to be collected on each individual machine.
