Special arrangements are approved before an examination or assessment and are intended to allow attainment to be demonstrated.

AQA recognises that there are some students who cope with learning demands but for whom standard arrangements for assessment may present an unnecessary barrier which could be removed without affecting the validity of the assessment. This applies both in the case of students with known and long-standing learning problems and students who are affected at or near the time of assessment.

All applications for special arrangements must be submitted by the Head of school/centre, an authorised member of staff at the school/centre or the parents/carers of an external student. Applications for students with long-term disabilities should be made by the date given in the Schedule of World Class Test activities (Appendix A). For students with temporary disabilities or indisposition as much notice as possible should be given.

If you would like to apply for special arrangements for one of your students, please complete form WCT/SA in Appendix J. AQA will then contact you to discuss the options.
