4.1 - Entry age

Students do not have to be exactly nine or 13 to take the tests; if you feel they are ready earlier, you may enter them for the tests. Similarly, students may be older than nine or 13, but the standard set will reflect the achievement of gifted and talented students at those ages.

4.2 - Entry fees

The entry fees for 2003 World Class Tests include both components of the tests (paper-based and computer-based) and are as follows:

Mathematics Nine year olds

£8

Problem Solving nine year-olds

£8

Mathematics 13 year-olds

£10

Problem Solving 13 year-olds

£10

There is an additional charge of £3.50 to students who take a test at a centre other than their own school. This will make a contribution towards any administrative expenses incurred. However, the test centre may waive the £3.50 fee at their discretion.

Payment of entry fees

Schools or centres entering students will be expected to collect fees before or as the entry is made. Cheques should then be forwarded to AQA either immediately, or no later than four days before the test session. The address to sent the payment to is:

AQA Accounts Department
Devas Street
Manchester M15 6EX
United Kingdom

Cheques should be made payable to AQA and a completed Payment form (Appendix D) should be attached securely. The bottom part of this form will be returned to you to confirm receipt of the amount paid. Please note that no invoices will be issued and that payment must be paid in UK pounds sterling.

4.3 - Test timetable

The nine year-olds examination timetable for 2003 may be found in Appendix E, and the 13 year-olds in Appendix F. Alternatively, the timetables may be viewed on the website under 'Test Information'.

Test components should be taken any time in the morning or afternoon, as stated on the timetable. However, where schools or centres have large numbers of students entered for the tests, it is permissible to timetable two test sessions per component on one test day. Schools and centres must take steps to ensure the security of the test materials between sessions and prevent students from different sessions from communicating with each other. If you wish to stagger tests in this way, you should contact AQA via the helpline for approval.

4.4 - Entering students for the tests

All entries must be made electronically. The closing date for entries can be found in the Schedule of World Class Tests activities (Appendix A).

You will need to know the full name and date of birth of each candidate you wish to enter, and which subject/s they wish to do.

Login to your online World Class Tests administration centre at https://wb.wcthq.org.uk/reg/login.asp. Use the username and password you were sent in your approval e-mail (your username is your e-mail address and the password starts with WCT followed by a number).

Click on the [enter candidates] link on the menu. This takes you to a screen which shows you the available session for which you can enter students. This is what it looked like in February:
Enter candidates link icon

Click on the 'Enter Candidates' button. Enter the details for your first student and click on [the add candidate] button to submit the student's details to the server. You will be alerted if you have left out an important item of data. If you are entering candidates who are not from your centre, you must also complete the external candidates' boxes.

Repeat the process until all of your students are entered.

If you are interested in entering students for an online version of World Class Tests, please contact us via e-mail or the helpline.

4.5 - Viewing current candidates

There is a link to [view current candidates] on the candidate entry screen where you will find a list of students building up as you submit them. The components entered will be listed against their names and the ID number the system has allocated to them.

Please check the details carefully, as the World Class Test certificates will be printed using the information you entered here.

4.6 - Amending entries

If you have made a mistake when entering students, click on the yellow Yellow E to edit their details. You can only change the candidate's personal details using this method. In order to change the subject (mathematics or problem solving) you must delete the student first and then re-add them, entering them for the correct test. If you wish to delete a student, click on the red Red D
