13.1 - Collecting the response files

As you will know from checking that a test is saving correctly (see page 19), response files are saved in the 'rs' folder within the 'wct' directory on each machine's C: drive.
You will need to copy each student's response file onto a floppy or a network drive ready for uploading to AQA. You could use Windows Explorer to find the files and then use the copy and paste facility to copy them across. If you need help doing this, please ring the helpline on (44) (0) 8700 101 798.

The response files you need to copy will have the session number followed by the candidate ID, then M for mathematics or P for problem solving. The file extension will be .xml (you may not see the .xml extension if your machine is not set up to show file extensions).

Here is an example for candidate 3410, session 16, doing a mathematics test:

The response file has been highlighted.

13.2 - Uploading the response files

Login to your World Class Tests administration centre and follow the link [test day utilities], then Test Day next to the relevant component. You will be taken to the attendance register which should be completed for both the computer and paper components of the tests. Please note that the register defaults to present; click on the grey box to mark candidates absent.

Please take care to ensure the correct component is selected.

Click on the [upload files] link. You will see a screen like the following:

Upload exam response files interface

If you do not see this screen, this is because a component (an ActiveX control) required to make this screen needs to be downloaded to your computer. This should happen automatically. If it does not you may have to configure your browser to accept ActiveX controls.

Drag the correct .xml response files that you have collected from the students' machines to the upload box. Alternatively, you can right click on the upload box and select the files you want to upload.

The response files will be listed in the box as you drag them in. This does not mean they have been uploaded. In order to upload them you need to right click with your mouse and then select upload. You will then see the files disappear as they are uploaded. The red text next to each candidate listed underneath the box will change to show the filename if the correct file has been uploaded.

13.3 - Deleting the World Class Tests files after the tests have been uploaded

A couple of days after the tests, please remove the test files, response files and validation files from each machine by deleting the WCT folder. Press SHIFT and DELETE at the same time so that the files will not be stored in the Recycle Bin from where they could be recovered.
